Zelensky announced a plan for the correct transformation of mining regions

The Servant of the People faction intends to initiate a bill on the creation of certain free economic zones on the basis of mining cities and mining regions of Ukraine. This was announced at a press conference on July 28 by a representative of the political force, deputy of the Rada and head of the committee on energy and housing and communal services Andrei Gerus, the correspondent of the news agency reports. An associate of Zelensky noted that this bill should introduce a number of benefits, for example, to connect to electric and gas networks. Thus, we want to stimulate the emergence of new enterprises, new business, new jobs. This is the correct transformation of the mining regions, Gerus noted. Recall that at a briefing on July 27 acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olga Buslavets said that the government plans to modernize the mines next year, but for this you first need to understand which coal enterprises need to be closed altogether. According to her, the ministry is developing a methodology with which it will rank mines by their perspective. In February of this year, at that time, Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexei Goncharuk announced the audit of 34 state mines. Those that theoretically can still compete, the government will support. And those mines that have become unprofitable due to irresponsible management for decades will be closed, Goncharuk noted then.
