Georgia to postpone conscription to students of vocational schools

Georgia will postpone conscription in a single order for students of vocational schools. The issue was considered at a meeting of the Government of Georgia on July 2. The draft amendments to the current legislation developed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports will be submitted by the Government to Parliament for consideration. According to Georgian Prime Minister Georgy Gakharia, the changes will contribute to the development of vocational education and at the same time will not impede the process of conscription for compulsory military service. When submitting the annual report to parliament, we promised to make a one-time postponement of conscription for students of vocational schools, and today the corresponding draft amendments to the legislation are submitted by the Ministry of Education. This will contribute to the development of vocational education and will not interfere with conscription. This will only be a one-time postponement. Vocational education courses are 12 months and 24 months, and most importantly, students enter vocational schools from the age of 15. So this will not be an instrument of evading compulsory military service, and we will give young people the opportunity to master the profession, the prime minister said.
