Members of the UN mission in South Sudan identified coronavirus
The head of the UN mission in South Sudan said that 47 employees were infected with coronavirus, one of them died. This was reported by the African Air Force with reference to a statement by David Shearer in an interview with the Air Force correspondent in Juba. In a notification to staff, Shearer called on members of the peacekeeping mission to comply with strict social distancing measures, the violation of which will threaten them with disciplinary sanctions. Recall that the number of detected cases of coronavirus infection in South Sudan approached 2,000, including at least 10 cases among government ministers. Health experts warned that the true number of cases is likely to be much higher, since only 10,000 tests have been conducted in the country all the time. The Shearer is also concerned that the pandemic could jeopardize the peace agreement signed after years of civil war in South Sudan. In recent weeks, violence in parts of the country has displaced 60,000 people, and several hundred civilians have been killed, according to the UN.
