European Parliament proposed to file a lawsuit against China in a UN court over Hong Kong

The resolution, which calls on the EU leadership to file a lawsuit against China at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague and apply economic pressure against China if Beijing adopts a national security law for Hong Kong, was adopted by the European Parliament on June 19 at its online session. According to the results of the vote on this resolution, the overwhelming majority of members of the European Parliament spoke out in favor of its adoption, with 34 opposed and 62 abstentions. The European Parliament calls on the European Union and its member states, if the new security law is applied to Hong Kong, to file a lawsuit against China with the UN International Court of Justice, the resolution says. It is also indicated that the basis of the lawsuit, according to European deputies, will be a violation after the adoption of this law by virtue of the principle of one country two systems that determine the autonomous status of Hong Kong. Note, as reported by the news agency, earlier it became known that the American authorities rejected the requests of air carriers from China for flights between the United States and China.
