The UN considers critical the situation with SARS-CoV -2 in Yemen
The spread of coronavirus infection in Yemen may be more serious, and the real number of infected in the country may be much higher than in other states, the situation is critical. On May 22, the official representative of the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs, Jens Lerke, spoke about this at a briefing. Epidemiologists suggest the virus in Yemen could spread faster, on a wider scale and greater casualties than elsewhere, an official said. He also added that despite the official data of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the country, the UN believes that the real epidemiological indicators there are worse. In addition, according to Lerke, there is a shortage of coronavirus tests in Yemen, and the health-care system destroyed by conflicts cannot provide the population with adequate health services, while the country lacks water and many cleaning systems do not work. Yemen is really on edge now. The situation is alarming, the official representative said and added that the participation of the international community in the donor conference on Yemen to be held on 2 June is extremely important. It should be noted, according to the news agency, earlier it became known that the total number of cases of coronavirus infection detected in Romania over the past 24 hours increased by 127 and reached 17712 people.
